🌿 Health Benefits of This Grain-Free Berry Crisp

This isn’t just dessert — it’s nourishment in disguise! Each ingredient adds its own powerful health benefits:

  • 🍓 Mixed Berries
    • Berries are bursting with antioxidants that help fight inflammation and protect your cells from oxidative stress. They’re also high in fiber, which supports gut health and helps balance blood sugar — even in a sweet treat like this!
  • 🍋 Lemon Juice
    • A touch of lemon brightens the flavor while providing vitamin C, which supports collagen production and boosts immune function.
  • 🌰 Almond Flour & Pecans
    • Both almonds and pecans are rich in healthy fats, protein, and magnesium — key nutrients that help regulate hormones, improve heart health, and keep you satisfied.
  • 🥥 Coconut & Coconut Oil
    • Coconut adds natural sweetness and texture while providing medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs) — healthy fats that support metabolism and energy.
  • 🍁 Maple Syrup & Coconut Sugar
    • These natural sweeteners are gentler on blood sugar compared to refined sugar, adding a rich caramel flavor without the crash.

❤️ Why You’ll Love It

This Very Berry Crisp satisfies your dessert cravings while nourishing your body with whole-food ingredients. It’s perfect for potlucks, brunches, or a cozy night in — and no one will guess it’s vegan and grain-free!

This Very Berry Crisp is healthy enough to eat for breakfast, indulgent enough for dessert and ridiculously easy to make!

💡 Make It Your Own

Ingredients

Scale

Berry Filling

  • 78 cups mixed berries (strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, and/or blackberries), fresh or frozen
  • 3 Tbsp maple syrup
  • 2 Tbsp cornstarch (or arrowroot starch)
  • 1 Tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 Tbsp vanilla extract

Crisp Topping

  • 1 cup almond flour (or almond meal)
  • ⅔ cup shredded or desiccated coconut (or rolled oats)
  • 1 cup roughly chopped pecans (or other nut of choice)
  • ½ cup coconut sugar (or organic cane sugar)
  • ½ tsp sea salt
  • 4 Tbsp coconut oil or vegan butter
  • 2 Tbsp maple syrup (optional, for extra sweetness)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375˚F.
  2. In a 9×13 baking dish, combine the berry filling ingredients (berries, maple syrup, lemon juice, vanilla, and cornstarch). Mix well until evenly coated.
  3. In a large bowl, mix together the crisp topping ingredients — almond flour, coconut or oats, nuts, sugar, salt, and maple syrup if using. Use your hands to ensure everything is well combined.
  4. Sprinkle the topping evenly over the berry mixture, gently pressing it down.
  5. Bake uncovered for 45–55 minutes, until the filling is bubbling and the topping is golden brown.
  6. Cool for 10 minutes before serving. Enjoy warm on its own or with a scoop of dairy-free vanilla ice cream!
  7. Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.

Notes

💡 Tips & Variations

  • Seasonal Swap: Replace berries with apples, pears, or peaches for a cozy fall or summer twist.
  • Nut-Free Option: Substitute sunflower seeds or pumpkin seeds for the pecans.
  • Extra Crunchy: Add 2 Tbsp of rolled oats to the topping for extra texture.
  • Serve it Warm: Pairs beautifully with coconut whipped cream or a drizzle of cashew cream.
