Have you ever had a papaya smoothie?

If not, why not?

Papaya is one of those fruits that doesn’t always get the attention it deserves, yet it’s one of the most delicious and nutritious additions you can make to your smoothie routine.

This Tropical Papaya Power Smoothie combines ripe papaya with frozen banana, creamy coconut yogurt, fresh lime juice, and 3 tablespoons of hemp seeds to create a smoothie that’s refreshing, satisfying, and packed with nutrients.

One of the things I love most about smoothies is how easy they are to customize.

Don’t have coconut yogurt? Use unsweetened soy milk, almond milk, or coconut water instead.

Want even more tropical flavor? Blend in frozen pineapple, mango, or guava.

Feeling adventurous? Add a little fresh ginger for a bright, spicy kick.

Why These Ingredients Love You Back

Papaya

Papaya is loaded with vitamin C, vitamin A, folate, and antioxidants that help protect your cells from oxidative stress. It also contains papain, a natural digestive enzyme that supports healthy digestion and helps break down proteins.

Banana

Frozen banana provides natural sweetness and creates a rich, creamy texture while supplying potassium to support healthy muscles, nerves, and heart function.

Coconut Yogurt

Coconut yogurt adds creaminess and healthy fats that make this smoothie more satisfying. If it contains live active cultures, it may also support a healthy gut microbiome.

Hemp Seeds

Don’t underestimate these tiny seeds.

The 3 tablespoons of hemp seeds provide approximately 10 grams of complete plant protein, along with heart-healthy omega-3 and omega-6 fats, magnesium, iron, zinc, and fiber. They help transform this smoothie from a light snack into a more balanced meal.

A Smarter Way to Enjoy Tropical Fruit

Tropical fruits like papaya, mango, pineapple, and guava are naturally sweeter than many berries.

That’s not a reason to avoid them.

Instead, it’s an opportunity to build a better smoothie.

By pairing tropical fruit with protein and healthy fats—like hemp seeds and coconut yogurt—you can enjoy all the vibrant flavor while creating a smoothie that’s more satisfying and supports steadier blood sugar.

One of the biggest misconceptions about healthy eating is that you have to avoid fruit because of its natural sugar.

I don’t believe that.

I believe in building balanced meals.

That’s exactly what this smoothie does.

So the next time you see a beautiful papaya at your grocery store or farmers market, bring it home.

Blend it with a few simple ingredients.

Then sit back, take a sip, and enjoy a little taste of the tropics.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups ripe papaya, cubed (fresh or frozen)
  • 1 frozen banana
  • ½ cup unsweetened coconut yogurt
  • ¼ cup 100% orange juice or pineapple juice
  • Juice of ½ lime
  • 3 tablespoons hemp seeds
  • Optional: ½ teaspoon freshly grated ginger
  • Optional: ¼–½ cup coconut water or unsweetened non-dairy milk, if a thinner consistency is desired

Optional Tropical Add-Ins

  • ½ cup frozen pineapple
  • ½ cup frozen mango
  • ½ cup frozen guava

Instructions

  1. Add the papaya, frozen banana, coconut yogurt, fruit juice, lime juice, 3 tablespoons of hemp seeds, and ginger (if using) to a high-speed blender.
  2. Blend until smooth and creamy.
  3. If you’d like a thinner consistency, add coconut water or your favorite unsweetened non-dairy milk and blend again.
  4. Taste and adjust the lime juice if you’d like a brighter citrus flavor.
  5. Pour into glasses and enjoy immediately.

Notes

Have extra papaya? Peel it, remove the seeds, cut it into cubes, and freeze it in a freezer-safe bag. Frozen papaya makes your next smoothie extra thick and creamy—no ice needed!
