If you’re planning a trip to the Big Apple—or you’re already lucky enough to call New York City home—you need to add HAAM Caribbean Plant Cuisine to your bucket list immediately.

From the moment I saw an Instagram Reel featuring this Trinidadian-Dominican vegan fusion restaurant, I was captivated.

Growing up in Toronto, I’ve had my fair share of Trinidadian cuisine. The bold spices, the depth of flavor—it’s something I’ve always loved. But Dominican food? That was completely new territory for me. I assumed it would be flavorful (because Caribbean food always is), but based on my experience in Puerto Rico, I also assumed it would be heavily centered around meat—especially pork.

So I never imagined I’d be able to experience authentic Dominican-inspired flavors in a fully plant-based way.

But when I realized this restaurant was not only Caribbean fusion—but vegan—I was all in. Where else can you enjoy Trinidadian and Dominican flavors reimagined through a plant-based lens?

The Journey Was Worth It

I took the subway all the way from the Bronx to Brooklyn just to try this spot—and I have absolutely no regrets.

Once I got off the train, it was just a few blocks away and easy to find. From the moment I walked in, I fell in love. The space is modest in size, but the decor is stunning. A vibrant mural bursting with Caribbean-inspired florals instantly sets the tone.

And the food? Just as bold, colorful, and vibrant.

This was truly an “eat with your eyes” experience—and they get a 10/10 for presentation.

Service That Matches the Vibes

Let’s talk about hospitality—because it matters.

The staff was warm, welcoming, and knowledgeable about the menu. They offered thoughtful recommendations and were incredibly accommodating (yes, even waiting while I got my content together before placing dishes on the table—content creators, you get it 😂).

Another 10/10.

Let’s Talk About the Food

Now, the real reason we’re here.

I’ll give the food a 9.5/10—only because perfection leaves no room to grow. But honestly? I had zero complaints.

Here’s what I tried:

Curry “Chik’n” Wontons
Creative, flavorful, and a perfect example of what’s possible when plant-based cuisine gets innovative.

Sweet Plantain Boat
Beautifully plated and bursting with flavor—sweet, savory, and completely satisfying.

Mofongo with Oyster Mushroom Chicharrón
A true showstopper. Crispy, savory, rich, and topped with a creamy coconut curry sauce that nods to Trinidadian flavors.
Whoever came up with this combination deserves an award. Seriously. Go off.

Passionfruit Cloud Cheesecake
Light, pillowy, and perfectly balanced with that tropical tartness. A dream dessert.

🌿Final Thoughts

Would I go again?

Most definitely.

If you’re a plant-based foodie—or even just curious about what’s possible without meat—this place is a must-visit. It’s creative, culturally rich, and deeply satisfying.
