If you love fries (and who doesn’t?), this Homemade Oven Fries recipe is about to become a staple in your kitchen! These golden, crispy fries are made with just a few simple ingredients — potatoes, olive oil, and your favorite seasonings — and baked to perfection in the oven.

Unlike traditional deep-fried versions, these fries are heart-healthy, naturally plant-based, and free from excess oil or additives. You’ll still get that crave-worthy crunch and soft interior, but with much less guilt. They pair beautifully with veggie burgers, wraps, salads, or can stand alone as the ultimate snack.

🥔 Why These Oven Fries Are a Healthier Choice

Homemade oven fries offer all the satisfaction of traditional fries without the deep-fried guilt. Here’s why they’re a smart addition to your plant-powered plate:

  • Heart-healthy fats: Olive oil contains monounsaturated fats and polyphenols that reduce inflammation and support hormone balance.
  • Fiber-rich potatoes: Keeping the skin on boosts fiber, which supports gut health and helps balance blood sugar — both essential for hormonal harmony.
  • Anti-inflammatory spices: Garlic and paprika not only add flavor but also help combat oxidative stress and inflammation.
  • Mineral-rich goodness: Potatoes are a natural source of potassium and magnesium, which help regulate cortisol and blood pressure.

These fries are proof that comfort food and wellness can absolutely coexist.

Crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside — the healthy way to satisfy your fry craving!

  • Author: Sandra Brooks
  • Prep Time: 10 minutes
  • Cook Time: 25 minutes
  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: Serves 6
  • Category: Sides
  • Method: Baked
  • Cuisine: American

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs potatoes (red, Yukon Gold, Russet, or sweet potatoes all work great!)
  • 2 Tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp smoked paprika
  • Sea salt, to taste
  • Optional: Your favorite dried or fresh herbs — rosemary, thyme, basil, or oregano add extra flavor and antioxidants.

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Scrub the potatoes well, leaving the skins on for extra fiber and nutrients.
  3. Cut potatoes into even-sized fries or wedges — whichever you prefer!
  4. Soak in cold water for at least 5 minutes, or up to 1 hour if time allows. This helps remove excess starch for crispier fries.
  5. Drain and pat dry thoroughly with a clean towel.
  6. Toss potatoes with olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, and salt. Add herbs if using.
  7. Spread fries in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each piece for even baking.
  8. Bake for 20–25 minutes, flipping halfway through, until fries are golden brown and crisp on the outside but tender inside.

Notes

💡 For Perfect Oven Fries

  • Soak for crispiness: Removing starch helps fries bake up beautifully golden and crunchy.
  • Don’t overcrowd: Give each fry space to crisp up — use two baking sheets if needed.
  • For extra crunch: Bake an additional 5–10 minutes or broil for the last 1–2 minutes.
  • Air fryer option: Cook at 400°F for 12–15 minutes, shaking halfway through for even cooking.
  • Flavor boost: Sprinkle with nutritional yeast for a cheesy flavor or toss in fresh herbs before serving.
